Experiential Learning: Two New Global Studies Programs

RCDS offered two new Global Studies travel programs in June.

Sixteen Upper School students and three faculty chaperones spent eight days in Sicily engaged in an intensive study of ancient civilizations. Through cultural immersion, participants had the opportunity to compare ancient and modern cultures, explore archaeological sites, and discover cross-disciplinary perspectives. The Sicily program was offered in partnership with The Paideia Institute for Humanistic Study, a Brooklyn-based, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the study of the classical humanities through innovative, experience-based, educational programming.

Participants gained a multifaceted perspective on the immigration experience through work with local nonprofits, conversations with community leaders, and learning sessions designed to promote students' understanding of global issues, leadership, and culture. The El Paso program was offered in partnership with World Leadership School, a socially conscious company whose mission is to empower young leaders to find innovative solutions to the world's pressing problems.
