The RCDS community, in conjunction with the expressed mission of Rye Country Day School, seeks to foster understanding of the world around us, to act in accord with our school motto, Not for Self, But for Service, and to promote moral responsibility as citizens of the planet. The long-term goals of the committee are to create a climate of environmental awareness and to help students understand that they can effect positive and lasting change in the world by becoming life-long stewards of our planet.

We endeavor to:

• educate our students and community members about the need and purpose of environmental practices.
• promote individual and shared environmental responsibility within the RCDS community.
• identify avenues within the curriculum and beyond that create educational opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to teach and practice issues of sustainability.
