Welcome to RCDS from the Headmaster
As you travel through these pages, we hope to give you a sense of the
School’s rich history and traditions. These unique RCDS characteristics
support a community dedicated to educating the whole child, while
emphasizing not only academic excellence, but broad humanistic values,
as well. At the same time, we hope to introduce you to the latest
curricular innovations and developments that prepare Rye Country Day
School students for the exciting opportunities of the 21st century.
Throughout its 138-year history, Rye Country Day’s goal has always been
to foster a lifelong passion for learning in its students.
If you are prospective students and parents:
As
you explore the Web site you will find that RCDS’s well-rounded
programs emphasize academic rigor and excellence, while encouraging a
healthy balance with the arts and athletics. Also, in keeping with the
School’s motto - "Not for Self, But for Service" - community service
plays an integral role here at all grade levels. Please take time to
peruse our current academic and extracurricular offerings, as well as
the student-generated, online publications and artwork.
When you
are ready to investigate the application process, the admissions pages
of the Web site should provide you with pertinent information and
schedules, as well as phone numbers to contact our admissions staff. We
hope that your visit to our Web site will encourage you to schedule a
visit to our campus to see our school community in action.
If you are an alumnus/a:
Thank
you for visiting your alma mater online. I encourage you to spend some
time navigating the Web site to get an idea of the changes to the
campus and the curricular innovations that have occurred since your
graduation. Reconnect with former faculty members, network with
classmates and friends, keep up to date on the latest developments from
the Alumni Executive Board and the Alumni Office, and be sure to note
the dates of upcoming class reunions, as well as other alumni events.
Also, use the alumni section of the Web site to check recent class
notes and submit one of your own. See all the developments at RCDS and
let us know about some of the developments in your own life.
If you are a parent of a current student:
The
RCDS Web site represents yet another way to enhance communication with
our parent body. We hope you will use it to stay informed about recent
events and upcoming programs. Log on to find directions to away
athletic events, times and locations of special programs on campus, and
to learn about specific academic courses and faculty. As we move in the
direction of increased reliance on electronic communication, we hope
you will find the Web site a helpful addition in the School’s efforts
to keep you informed.
