This quarter, the Technology Committee rolled out its fourth and final digital citizenship "tech talk" focusing on gender stereotypes online. Flyers located in the Middle and Upper School bathrooms invite students to consider the stereotypes they see in ads and what types of ads are being targeted to them based on their gender.
The "tech talk" continues throughout the school: Upper School students will participate in an aligned activity during Advisory, Middle School students will discuss within their SEEK curriculum, and Lower School students also recently had a conversation on gender stereotypes with our Technology Coordinator, Kimberly Love. Check out the video below with an example of how third grade students explored the topic.
To support student's understanding of gender stereotypes online, we hope that families might take some time to think about how advertising stereotypes impact their social media feeds.
