Skills Spotlight: Students Become "Investors" Assessing Pitches from Real Startups

Students in the Global Issues/Social Entrepreneurship elective ventured into New York City to attend Demo Day at XRC Labs during which 8 entrepreneurs pitched their startups to an audience of investors, Shark Tank style. Afterwards, the students spoke with the entrepreneurs about about the 12-week accelerator program they participated in to transform their idea into a reality.

Next up, the students will assess the startups based on the same rubric the investors use to determine which companies they'd choose to back. What was the biggest learning? They report "the importance of preparation and public speaking skills" and "that a good idea is really only the beginning."
