Comprehensive Admissions Timeline

Step 1: Create an account in the Online Application Portal and submit a New Student Application

The Online Portal and New Student Application will open on August 1, 2019. The deadline to be considered in the first round of applications is December 15, 2019.

After you have completed a new student application, an individualized checklist of all application components and deadlines will be generated. We ask that prospective families begin the application process before scheduling a tour and interview so that we can make sure your visit to campus is as personal as possible.

CREATE AN ACCOUNT IN THE ONLINE APPLICATION PORTAL

After you have created an account, please select "Begin admissions process" and complete the informational form.

Step 2: Tour & Interview

To schedule your tour and interview, please email us at admissions@ryecountryday.org or call us at 914-925-4513.

Once you have created an account in the Online Application Portal and submitted the New Student Application, the next step is to schedule a tour and interview on campus. This is a required component of the RCDS application process. We will take you on a tour of campus, explain what we think makes RCDS unique, and answer any questions you have. We hope this will give you a chance to see what the RCDS experience is all about.

Information about the visit and interview:

  • For applicants to Pre-Kindergarten - Grade 2: We ask that all applicants accompany a parent/guardian for their tour and interview appointment. Ms. Kristin Bainbridge will meet with student applicants for an individual screening at the same time as parents/guardians meet with an admissions officer for a parent interview. In addition to the individual screening, applicants to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten are invited to attend a group visit with other applicants in December. See below for more information about the group visit.
  • For applicants to Grade 3 and above: We ask that all applicants to Grade 3 and above meet with an admissions officer in order to complete a student interview. We ask that one parent/guardian accompany the student.

Step 3: Submit Parent/Guardian Questionnaire and Student Questionnaire (Grades 5+) by January 10

The parent/guardian questionnaire and the student questionnaire (Grades 5+) may be submitted online via the application portal.

Step 4: Schedule a Day Visit/Shadow Day (Grade 4 and above)

Call or e-mail the Admissions Office at admissions@ryecountryday.org or 914-925-4513 to arrange a shadow day.

Applicants to Grade 4 and above are strongly encouraged to spend a day shadowing a current RCDS student. Visits are available between October and January. Students will shadow a student in their current grade.

Please note: the parent/guardian questionnaire and student questionnaire for Grade 5 and above must be complete before shadowing.

Step 5: Admissions Testing

After you submit a New Student Application, the RCDS Admissions Office will be in touch with you to schedule the required assessments and visits.

For applicants to Pre-Kindergarten - Grade 2: We ask that all applicants accompany a parent/guardian for their tour and interview appointment. Ms. Kristin Bainbridge will meet with student applicants for an individual screening at the same time as parents/guardians meet with an admissions officer for a parent interview. In addition to the individual screenings, applicants to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will be invited to attend a group visit with other applicants beginning in December. The admissions office will reach out to schedule this visit beginning in mid-November.

For applicants to Grades 3 and 4: All applicants to Grades 3 and 4 must take the RCDS Admissions test. Testing will take place on campus on December 7, 2019 for applicants who apply before December 1, and on January 11, 2020 for applicants who apply after December 1. After submitting an application, you will receive a confirmation of your child's test date.

For applicants to Grade 5 and above: Applicants to Grade 5 and above are required to take the ISEE or SSAT. Both tests are viewed equally in the admissions process. Parents are responsible for making testing arrangements. Testing should be scheduled after September 1 of the application year, and applicants should sit for the testing no later than Sunday, January 12 to ensure a completed application folder.

Step 6: Complete the Financial Aid Application by December 15 (Optional)

The required financial aid forms must be submitted by December 15.

Rye Country Day School is eager to encourage all qualified students to apply to the school. We are actively committed to maintaining a school community of students from diverse backgrounds and experiences and our extensive financial aid program helps to make a Rye Country Day education accessible for those who demonstrate financial need. RCDS grants approximately $5.9 million in financial aid to 16 percent of the student body.

The Rye Country Day School Financial Aid Program uses an outside program called School and Student Services (SSS) to establish financial need. Parents of financial aid applicants need to complete the Parents Financial Statement (PFS) using the RCDS code 6208. (In the case of divorced or separated parents, the equivalent form from the non-custodial parent must be submitted as well.) The School also requires that applicants submit a copy of all federal IRS forms filed in the previous year as well as the most recent W2 forms. For more information about SSS, call 800-344-8328 or visit their website at https://www.solutionsbysss.com/parents.

FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION

Financial aid responses will accompany admissions decisions.
Questions about financial aid? Please visit the financial aid section of the website and/or contact Courtney Doucette, Financial Aid Officer, at 914-925-4542 or courtney_doucette@ryecountryday.org.

Step 7: Request transcripts and recommendations

RCDS requires that transcripts and teacher recommendations be submitted by January 10 for an application to be considered in the first round. Requests can be made directly from the Online Application Portal. We recommend families make these requests as early as possible.
