Transportation & Directions

Over 100 students arrive to and from campus by Metro-North Railroad. Most of these students are in the Middle and Upper School, though Lower School students have traveled by train with an older sibling who also attends the School. Several faculty and staff members also ride the train daily, coming from locations ranging from Manhattan to Bridgeport. The Rye train station is a three-minute walk to campus. At the beginning of each school year, RCDS brings in a representative from the MTA to conduct a safety presentation. Students are also eligible for a monthly student ticket at a 33% discounted rate.

Towns and villages within a 15-mile radius of RCDS that regularly provide busing to public school students are also required by state law to provide busing to RCDS. RCDS currently has students taking the bus from the following school districts: Blind Brook, Byram Hills, Chappaqua, Eastchester/Bronxville/Tuckahoe, Greenbugh Central, Harrison Central, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Tarrytown, and Valhalla. Families are encouraged to check availability with their local school district regarding the district’s policy on busing to private or independent schools.

Additionally, RCDS provides a bus bringing students to campus from Yonkers, Mount Vernon, and the Bronx.

The majority of RCDS families drive to/from school each day. The Office of Admissions is happy to help new families meet other families who live near their homes to facilitate carpooling. Our host family program (through our Parents Association) can assist connecting families that live near you.

Take Exit 11 - Boston Post Rd/Rte 1. Turn right off the exit onto Boston Post Road. Proceed c 200 yards, continuing past the RCDS playing field on the right. The entrance to the Admissions Office parking lot is a sharp right through the first opening in the white fence. Look for the small blue sign that says “Admissions.”.

Turn left onto Cedar Street and follow down the hill to the light at Purchase Street. Turn right onto Purchase Street. Follow to the fifth right, Hillside Road. Turn right on Hillside and follow up the hill to the second stop sign - Boston Post Road. Turn right onto Boston Post Road and proceed 200 yards, continuing past the RCDS playing field on the right. Exit 21 - Port Chester/287 West/ Rte 1 North. The exit itself splits, so stay to the right as you exit, following the sign for Port Chester/Rye. At the bottom of the exit, turn left onto Midland Ave. At the next light, turn right onto Peck Ave. At the next light, turn right onto Boston Post Rd. Turn left onto Cedar Street and follow down the hill to the light at Purchase Street. Turn right onto Purchase Street. Follow to the fifth right, Hillside Road. Exit 20 - Rte 1 South. Turn right onto Boston Post Rd. At the second light, turn right onto Purdy St. At the next light, turn right onto Purchase St. Follow to the sixth right, Hillside Road.
