The National Association of Scholars features RCDS alumnus, Dr. Alex Peters '04, and their publication of his high school essay the 1918 Influenza Pandemic

How is COVID-19 connected with a high school history paper?

When Alex Peters '04 was in high school at RCDS, he wrote a paper on the 1918 Influenza Pandemic. At the time, his humanities teacher, Mrs. Sampson, encouraged him to submit it for publication in The Concord Review, a quarterly paper that publishes academic research articles written by secondary school students.

Today, Dr. Peters is a surgical resident at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, working to rapidly convert space in the hospital to intensive care units. He notes that he frequently refers back to his paper and that its publication was an important moment in his life.

The Concord Review, at Dr. Peters's request, has made the paper available for free. Check it out, and read his interview with the National Association of Scholars here https://www.nas.org/blogs/article/coronavirus-and-high-school-history
