On Thursday, May 20, Rye Country Day School hosted the Blue & Gold Formal to officially welcome the Class of 2021 into the Alumni Association. Seniors, alumni, administrators, faculty, and staff participated in the festive in-person event that combined elements of the traditional Blue & Gold Dinner and prom.
Head of School Scott Nelson opened the evening and shared, “The Class of 2021 will be remembered and admired for your strength of character and resilience. Even before the unprecedented disruption and difficulty brought about by the pandemic, you have been an outstanding group of students and leaders.” Mr. Nelson reminded students to stay in touch with their teachers and to return to the School often as alumni. “The RCDS family is and always will be here for you and proud of you,” he emphasized.
Senior Class President Kyle Mandell and Student Body President Liam Bieber led a heartfelt joint toast to their class.
Manager of Alumni Relations Melissa Mahoney Wirth ’97 announced alumni status for the seniors, who are set to graduate on June 11 at an in-person ceremony at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
The evening’s student-nominated keynote speaker was Director of Public Purpose Rebecca Drago, who urged the students to pursue their passions and continue their already-proven commitment to community and the greater good.
Kyle Mandell, Liam Bieber, Eesha Narain, and R.J. Thalheimer-Santamaria were announced as Class Agents. They will represent the Class of 2021 and facilitate their meaningful engagement with the School, their peers, and other alumni.
It was a joyous and memorable inaugural alumni experience for the next generation of Rye Country Day leaders who have shown inspiring resilience and strength of character in addition to their outstanding achievements in the classroom and beyond.
