On Friday, May 3, 2024, members of the Rye Country Day School community gathered to celebrate the life of beloved RCDS alumna Sabrina Bertucci ’00. The gathering included tributes from family members and teachers and a special dedication of a memorial plaque in the Cohen Center for the Creative Arts.
While she was at RCDS, Sabrina was deeply passionate about art and art history. After graduation, she took her interest to George Washington University, where she majored in art history and received the Francine Zorn Trachtenberg Scholarship. Because of Sabrina’s connection to the arts, the dedication of the plaque in the Cohen Center for the Creative Arts was especially meaningful. Dedicating the plaque, Head of School Randall Dunn said, “Had the Cohen Center building existed during Sabrina’s RCDS years, I truly feel it would have been a favorite space for her.”
In addition to commemorating Sabrina’s life in words, the plaque features beautiful original pieces created by RCDS Middle School student artists to especially celebrate Sabrina and the things that brought her joy, from Gerbera Daisies and bright turquoise to Florence, Italy, and Renaissance art.
Former RCDS English Department Chair and Art History teacher Kate Ordway who taught Sabrina shared a moving remembrance, and Sabrina’s sister, Giulia, concluded the event sharing how much it meant to her family to see so many friends of Sabrina together in celebration of her life.
