Celebrating 25 Years of the WildScats

The 2018-19 school year marks the 25th anniversary of the WildScats, Rye Country Day's twelve-voice a cappella group. In 1993 a group of students approached Music Department Chair Mary Marcell with the idea of starting the ensemble. After a short time as a student club, the WildScats quickly became an integral part of the RCDS music program, performing both on and off campus and earning top honors at several a cappella competitions.

To celebrate this milestone, RCDS welcomed back alumni WildScats during Wildcat Weekend to reunite, reconnect, and rock out to some of their favorite numbers from the WildScat repertoire. Mary Marcell reflected on the 25th reunion event: "It was so fun to visit with past WildScats, gather around the piano, and jump right back into making music together. As each person arrived, they were excited to reunite with familiar faces and to connect with others who shared the experience of being a part of this special twelve-voice jazz group. I was so touched to see them come back, to learn the different ways music remains in their lives, and to re-experience the WildScats community with old friends."
