After School Sign-Out Policy Permission Form (Grades 9-11)

We are continuing an after-school sign-out policy for those students in grades 9, 10, and 11 who are involved in after school activities that may begin some time after 4:30 p.m. For example, the winter sports schedule requires that we stagger the start of practices, and because of this, athletes often have a good deal of time free between 3:15 p.m. and their next obligation. Similar situations occur with drama and on days when the band and choir perform, for these activities start in the early evening. If a 9th, 10th, or 11th grade student's after-school obligation begins before 4:30 p.m., we expect that student to remain on campus. Senior privileges remain in effect during this time period.

If students have permission from their parents to leave campus, then they need to sign out and indicate the time of departure and destination. They need not sign in upon return; we assume that attending the after-school obligation is equivalent to signing in.

Although we strongly recommend that students remain on campus during this period and use this time to do homework (the Library remains open until 6:00 p.m., and the Pinkham Building has an administrator present until 6:00 p.m.), the decision to allow students off campus between 3:15 p.m. and their after school obligation is in parent/guardian hands and requires a parent or guardian to electronically sign the permission slip below.

Even with this permission, school rules regarding driving apply. As stated in the Parent-Student Handbook, students in grades 9-11 may not ride with other students. Siblings, of course, may travel in a car together with one of the children driving, but non-family members may not be in a car together with a student driving.

Please Note: For those large events in the evening (concerts, tech week rehearsals), a simple dinner is provided in the dining room, and this is arranged between students and the adult in charge of the event.
