Cedar Street Dance Company

Cedar Street is an audition-based Upper School dance company composed of Rye Country Day School's most serious and dedicated dancers.

The company values technique, passion, hard work, expression, innovation, and creativity. Members work together to enhance the community through movement and performance, bringing attention to the artistry and athleticism of dance.

Membership & Commitment

Cedar Street Dance members must dedicate two or more seasons to the company each year. Company members train in ballet, contemporary, and jazz dance techniques while simultaneously working towards gaining the necessary performance skills for the annual Winter Choreography Showcase and the Spring Dance Performance.

All Upper School students are welcome to audition for the company with the understanding that being part of the company requires hard work and dedication to the art of dance and dance making. Students have the opportunity to audition at the beginning and the end of each school year providing an opportunity for students to join throughout their RCDS experience. For students who are new to dance, we offer an apprenticeship program that allows dancers to be part of the company with the goal of improving their dance technique and performance skills and becoming a full-time company member.

We encourage all company members to enroll in any of the following classes:

  • P.E. Dance - Beginning Technique
  • Dance 1 - Intermediate Technique
  • Dance 2 - Advanced Technique & Composition
  • Independent Study - Dance History & Composition
