Rye Country Day School finished first place in the Green Cup Recycle Challenge sponsored by the Green Schools Alliance, a consortium of schools dedicated to sustainability educating and reducing their environmental impact. Thank you to Ms. Festo and the Pre-K, Ms. Simpson and the Rocking Recycling Rangers, Ms. Irwin and the Green Team, the AP Environmental Science students for collecting weekly recycling data, and to Flik for being such a big part of our campus waste reduction and awareness. In addition, thank you to Ms. Hallen, Brooks Sleeper, Jialin Yang, and Jack Curry who were also recognized with a second place finish in the Green Cup Video Challenge for "The Return of Green Man"!
The four-week Green Cup Recycle Challenge encouraged schools to compete for Bin Points by "recycling right" - improving recycling compliance rates and decreasing contamination. Points were also earned for additional waste reduction efforts, such as composting or paperless communications. RCDS came in first place with 98.3 Bin Points. The Green Cup Challenge is intended to create awareness about lowering energy use, recycling, reducing waste, and rethinking consumption.
