The Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning

The RCDS Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning invites Rye Country Day School faculty and staff to   develop new student-centered initiatives that support and advance the School’s mission.

Innovative Teaching & Learning projects drive the evolution of our program to ensure transformative experiences for all of our students.
Rye Country Day School launched the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning in 2016 to encourage faculty to develop and implement new student-centered, mission-based initiatives. Born out of the School's strategic plan Bold Vision: 2020, the core belief is that faculty and staff creativity is critical to delivering an excellent education. The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning strives to:

  • Cultivate new ideas and facilitate innovative and integrated programs, curriculum, and instruction.
  • Promote a thriving faculty and staff who lead, collaborate, and innovate.
  • Ensure continued commitment to school values: Respect and responsibility; Commitment to personal & academic excellence; Diversity within an inclusive community; and Service.

Faculty and Staff Fellowships

The RCDS Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning has overseen 15 faculty-led projects since its launch in 2016. Over 30 RCDS faculty members have served as Innovative Teaching and Learning fellows.

Each year, the School solicits proposals from faculty and staff for student-centered projects that support and advance the School’s mission. A committee of RCDS administrators (including the Head of School, Assistant Heads of School, Division Principals, and Director of the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning) selects up to five of the proposed projects to fund and support. Teaching and Learning fellows have one summer and the following school year to grow their projects from idea to implementation.

Note: Due to COVID-19, and the need for all faculty to innovate and collaborate, RCDS did not run the fellowship program during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years. The program resumed operation in 2022-23.
