As part of the 2019 Middle School Day of Service, MS students and their families spent a sunny September Saturday in White Plains volunteering for Our New Way Garden (ONWG), a nonprofit organization that strives to educate the public about locally and naturally grown food and increase community access to healthy organic produce—ONWG donates the majority of its harvest to locally-based organizations that feed the greater Westchester community. RCDS volunteers rolled up their sleeves and helped with harvesting, planting garlic, preparing garden beds for winter, spreading compost, and sorting seeds, among other gardening tasks. This annual day of service helps middle schoolers exercise active citizenship as they exemplify the RCDS motto, Not for Self, but for Service.
