We know that students who eat a balanced and healthy breakfast are better prepared for the mental and physical demands of a day of learning in school. Simply put, nutrition and learning are connected.
In 2018-19, RCDS conducted the Independent School Health Check as part of the School's ongoing commitment to health and wellness. The survey asked Upper School students how often they eat breakfast before starting the school day. Over a third of our students answered that they rarely or only occasionally eat breakfast prior to school. RCDS has a longstanding dedication to the question: How can we make our school better? The irrefutable datapoint on students' breakfast habits suggested an obvious solution.
RCDS is excited to announce that beginning on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, breakfast will be available free of charge to all students in Grades 5 – 12 from 7:15 – 8:00 a.m. Breakfast choices will include hot egg sandwiches, muffins, croissants, bagels, cold cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, milk, juice, and water.
As we introduce this program, we ask students to follow a few rules around this free breakfast program: Only one hot breakfast sandwich per person, and most importantly, breakfast must be eaten in the Dining Room.
Regular breakfast sales will resume from 8:15 – 10:45 a.m. for Upper School students who wish to purchase items.
