A Summer Well Spent by Members of the RCDS Outdoors Club

RCDS Outdoors Club members Max Hines ’21, Allen Dong ’21, Sofia Medina ’22, Ryan Peacock ’21, Matthew Harkness ’21, Luca Franzino ’21, and Henry Burdick ’21 spent the summer volunteering at Mianus River Park. Twice a week, they cleared debris and bush from trails, closed bootlegged trails, repaired fences, added new deer fencing, and laid stone on muddy trails. They also installed almost 400 feet of split rail fence!

In a letter of commendation to Upper School Principal Jon Leef, the President of The Friends of Mianus River Park, Inc., Mary Ellen Burns P'10, shared, “The students performed a tremendous service to the park and hence to the community. The group was energetic, self starting, cheerful, resourceful, excellent at problem solving, good natured and exemplified the epitome of teamwork.”

Mianus River Park is a 391-acre nature reserve on the Greenwich/Stamford border in Connecticut. A two-mile stretch of the Mianus River flows through the park, which also offers fine forest lands, vernal pools, varied wildlife, and miles of rolling trails for walking and other recreational activities.
