On Friday, September 27, RCDS welcomed speaker and consultant Aaron Golub for inspiring conversations about resilience, leadership, and reaching your full potential despite adversity.
Mr. Golub became the first legally blind Division One athlete to play in a game when he played football at Tulane University, where he was named Team Captain. He later became an NFL free agent. He now works with clients to recognize and challenge limiting beliefs in order to effect personal change and achieve goals.
Mr. Golub shared his story and his message with Middle and Upper School students at their division meetings and then gathered with smaller groups of students and faculty throughout the day.
In order to help students and faculty connect with his experience, Mr. Golub invited them to catch and throw a ball while wearing goggles that simulate his vision. The experience helped the audience understand the magnitude of the challenges that Mr. Golub faced in achieving his goal of playing on a football team. Emphasizing perseverance, gratitude, and connecting with others who believe in you, Mr. Golub’s message resonated deeply with students.
Thank you, Mr. Golub, for sharing your inspiring story and wisdom with the RCDS community.
"Mr. Golub’s story of perseverance, initiative, and leadership was relevant to every one of our Middle Schoolers. As he reminded us, we all face unique adversities, and what matters most is how we respond to them." — Pen Vineyard, Middle School Principal
"Holding 450 high schoolers rapt for a full hour is a difficult task for even the most engaging speakers, but Mr. Golub's presentation did just that. Students were enthralled by his message of resilience and leadership, and student groups and employees found the following conversations and workshops with him equally captivating." — Peter Quagliaroli, Upper School Principal
