All-Community Read-a-Thon Supports Building One Community in Stamford

RCDS students, families, and employees completed 224 read-a-thon units (chapters, books, articles, podcasts, and videos examining social impact, activism, citizenship, and community), raising almost $2,700 to support Building One Community, an immigrant resource center in Stamford, Connecticut, and longtime RCDS community partner. Congratulations to our readers, and thank you to our generous donors for matching each unit with a gift to Building One Community. A special shout out also goes to the RCDS librarians for sharing resources with our readers.

The All-Community Read-a-Thon was part of Social Impact Week, an all-school program honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. In addition to the Read-a-thon, the week consisted of activism and citizenship-themed special programming, including the virtual Day of Action for all students and families, a panel of alumni of color for Upper and Middle School students, and social impact crafts in the Lower School.

Social Impact Week was sponsored by the RCDS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Public Purpose Initiatives, and it was the result of cross-divisional collaboration guided by the School’s DEI Plan.
