Catie Colao ’26 Recognized with Rotary Club of Larchmont Blum Award

Catie Colao ’26 was named the recipient of the Larchmont Rotary Club’s 2024 Blum Award, which is given annually to honor high school students for their leadership in making a difference in the local community and beyond. 

Catie was recognized for her community contributions as the founder and lead teacher at Mamaroneck Community Resource Center’s Saturday Reading Club, a program that helps young students improve their reading and writing skills. Every Saturday morning, Catie teaches children comprehensive reading skills and Latin using The Paideia Institute's Aequora: Teaching Literacy with Latin. 

Helping to foster a love of reading in young students has proven extremely rewarding for Catie. She continues to lead the Saturday Reading Club at the Community Resource Center, and at RCDS, she serves as an Oral Proficiency Intern (OPI) in Latin. Part of the RCDS Modern Languages Department, the OPI program invites Upper School students who have been trained in the Rassias Method to help lead oral drills and conversational practice in younger language classes.

At a celebratory luncheon in Larchmont last fall, Catie was presented with the Blum Award, as well as certificates from State Assemblyman Steve Otis, State Senator Shelly Mayer, and County Executive George Latimer.
