Celebrating the Life of Donna Brown P’05 and Social Studies Teacher

In June, members of the Rye Country Day School community gathered to celebrate the life of beloved former RCDS teacher and past parent Donna Brown. Ms. Brown taught Middle School social studies at Rye Country Day for over 30 years and then served as the Middle School’s Administrative Assistant. The celebration of life gathering included the dedication of a memorial dogwood tree by the Admissions Building.

During her time as a teacher, Ms. Brown’s Grade 6 social studies classroom became renowned for the many arts and crafts projects throughout the curriculum, such as creating Medieval castles and shields. Ms. Brown was committed to giving students the opportunity to express themselves through these projects, which she displayed throughout the halls of the School for the broader community to enjoy. She was married to RCDS science teacher, Dick Brown, who predeceased her in 2004. Ms. Brown leaves behind her daughter, Katie, who also attended RCDS, her son-in-law, Chris, and her siblings and friends.
