Chinese Language Students Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival

Blending art and culture, students in Chinese Language courses learned about the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional Chinese harvest festival celebrating family, community, the harvest season under the full moon.

As the moon symbolizes unity, reunions, and the appreciation of nature, festive Mid-Autumn Festival traditions include moongazing, making lanterns, eating mooncakes, and reuniting with family.

In the Upper School, Ms. Shang’s classes sang moon-related songs, made oreo mooncakes in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also known as the Moon Festival and the Mooncake Festival.

In the Middle School, Ms. Huang’s classes also sang songs and made mooncakes. They also created traditional Chinese brush painting and calligraphy describing the cakes, as well as festive lanterns. Ms. Huang’s students then collaborated to lead a presentation at a Middle School Community Meeting about the holiday and its meaning.

Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, which fell on October 6 this year (2025).
