On January 30, clinical and organizational psychologist Dr. Robert Evans visited RCDS to lead a professional development session for faculty and staff. His talk was part of the All-In Task Force’s work to understand and encourage active engagement in school life among faculty and staff.
Drawing on his extensive experience as a psychologist, veteran teacher, school consultant, and executive coach to educational leaders, Dr. Evans shared his perspective on the ever-changing landscape in schools, as well as best practices for guiding students and partnering with families. He also discussed the importance of tending to the well-being of all school constituencies.
A former high school and pre-school teacher, Dr. Evans has served for 40 years as the Executive Director of The Human Relations Service, a non-profit community mental health clinic in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He has consulted with more than 1,800 schools, public and private, throughout the U.S. and internationally, working with teachers, leaders, and boards.
Dr. Evans attended the Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia and received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his doctorate from Harvard University. He consults with schools regarding a range of topics, including leadership, managing change, crisis intervention, and partnering with parents. Dr. Evans has also spoken to hundreds of school parent groups and is the co-author of Hopes and Fears: Working with Today's Independent School Parents, published by the National Association of Independent Schools.
This wonderful opportunity was made possible through The Martin L. Kleinbard Endowment Fund. Established in 1992 in memory of Martin Kleinbard P'69, P'71, P'85, former RCDS parent and trustee, the endowment supports professional development initiatives for the RCDS employee community. While Mr. Kleinbard sadly passed away in 1978, his legacy lives on through this generous endowment. Rye Country Day School is deeply grateful to the Kleinbard family for establishing and continuing to support this meaningful fund.
