Rye Country Day students learned about and celebrated Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, with a number of fun activities.
Lower School
On October 29, Kindergarten students learned about Diwali with special visitors and activities. They began the day with storytime led by parent volunteers. The class enjoyed read-alouds of Let’s Celebrate 5 Days of Diwali, Binny’s Diwali, and Diwali (celebrate the world). Through these books, the students learned the story of DiwalI, which is also known as the Festival of Lights. Then they painted and decorated clay Diyas (oil lamps) that are used during Diwali to symbolize inner light and the victory of light over darkness.
Thank you to our parent volunteers who made the celebration a wonderful experience for the class!
Middle School
On October 30, MS students learned about Diwali with their advisors in Homeroom. They were also introduced to the vibrant colors, traditions, and food that are part of the holiday.
Upper School
On November 1, Upper School SOC leaders led a presentation about Diwali during US Community Meeting. The club also organized a scavenger hunt of Diyas around campus.
