In December and January, tenth-grade students in World History II completed a multidisciplinary project on early 20th-century art and design.
Students identified a style of modern art, researched its key characteristics and historical significance, and then constructed their own piece of modern art addressing a current-day issue. Working in the Makerspace, students chose between Expressionism, Cubism, Dada, Bauhaus, Surrealism, and Latin American Modernism to make an informed creative commentary on a variety of topics, including the environment, mental health, and digital citizenship.
When the projects were completed, students shared their work with one another through an in-class gallery walk. Many of the projects will also be displayed in the Cohen Center.
