Junior Ethan Schales received two recognitions for his outstanding commitment to service. He earned the Ambassador Award in the 2023-24 United Nations Association’s National Community Service Awards and the Zero Hero designation in Kroger’s Zero Hunger Zero Waste Initiative.
The United Nations Association’s National Community Service Awards are given to college and high school aged individuals whose efforts connect personal service with progress toward the U.N.’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals are a call for action by all countries to work in global partnership to end poverty and other deprivations through strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth–all while tackling climate change and working to preserve the world’s oceans and forests.
Ethan received the U.N. Association’s Ambassador Award, the program’s highest honor, in recognition of his 163 hours of service to others, which also supported the SDGs of Climate Action (#14), Quality Education ( #4), and Responsible Consumption & Production ( #12).
Zero Hunger Zero Waste is Kroger’s social and environmental impact plan, which reflects the company’s commitment to build a more resilient, equitable and sustainable food system that improves access to affordable, fresh food for everyone. The Zero Hero honor was given to Ethan because of his 8+ hours of service to achieve zero waste in his home community.
Congratulations, Ethan!
