Last weekend, first-grade students joined members of the Middle and Upper School choirs to participate in the monthly clean-up program at the Edith Read Wildlife Sanctuary.
To start the day, the students heard from a member of the Westchester Parks Foundation to understand how trash and other discarded items can damage wildlife habitats. The group then rolled up their sleeves to collect and properly dispose of over 27 pounds of trash, which included food wrappers, bottles, cans, and plastic and metal waste.
It was a wonderful cross-divisional opportunity for students to put Not for Self, But for Service into action.
This program, which is sponsored by the RCDS Public Purpose and Sustainability programs, is now in its third year of hosting various student and parent clean-up groups at the local sanctuary each month.
