Four RCDS Middle Schoolers Earn Finalist Distinction in 2025 COMAP Middle Mathematical Contest in Modeling

Nikolas R. ’30, Léopoldine W. ’30, Winnie W. ’30, and Ian Z. ’30 were named finalists based on their outstanding performance in the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP) 2025 Middle Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MidMCM). Out of 108 teams representing 53 schools and 6 countries/regions, Rye Country Day was one of the top-performing teams in the competition and will go on to compete in the International Math Modeling Challenge (IM2C) from February 2 to April 27, 2026.

An international competition that challenges students to solve real-world math problems, the RCDS eighth graders were recognized for their performance on Problem C: Responsible and Interesting Zoos. Advised by Middle School Math Teacher Ms. Dominicus, Nikolas, Léopoldine, Winnie, and Ian worked collaboratively to create a strong mathematical model layout for a zoo, while taking into consideration animal welfare, safety, proper staffing, and visitor engagement.

Congratulations, Nikolas,  Léopoldine, Winnie, and Ian!
