Earlier in the spring, 35 students enrolled in RCDS Middle and Upper School Chinese courses visited the China Institute Gallery in Lower Manhattan to explore an exhibition showcasing vessels from the Bronze Age.
Sourced from the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the “Eternal Offerings” exhibit featured ritual bronze vessels from the Shang (1600-1046 BCE) and Zhou (1046–256 BCE) Dynasties. These ornate vessels served an important role in ritual ceremonies and symbolized power, spirituality, and cosmic harmony.
In addition to deepening their learning learning about these vessels the students participated in a drawing activity to try sketching intricate designs that adorned the vessels.
