Fourth graders in the Sustainability Club were delighted to host United Nations Non-Government (NGO) Representative, Arts Educator, and RCDS Grandparent Therese Folkes Plair GP ’33 to a recent meeting to discuss the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
As the Co-Chair of the NGO Committee on Children’s Rights, Ms. Folkes Plair works to place the human rights of children and young people at the center of development and humanitarian efforts worldwide. The committee is made up of international and national NGOs who are devoted to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), an international treaty that outlines the fundamental rights of every child under 18 years of age.
Ms. Folkes Plair shared the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which were adopted in 2015 and developed to provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. Ms. Folkes Plair asked the students to think about ways they could contribute to sustainability efforts in their daily lives. She also encouraged the students to continue their work advocating for sustainability efforts and assured them they are never too young to speak up and make a change in the world.
Thank you, Ms. Folkes Plair, for an engaging, informative, and inspiring visit!
