Parent-Faculty Book Club Discusses Ethan Mollick's "Co-Intelligence" and Artificial Intelligence

This year, Rye Country Day is offering a special Book Club bringing together parents/guardians and teachers to read and discuss Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation; Ethan Mollick’s Co-Intelligence; and Jennifer Breheny Wallace’s Never Enough. In December, a group gathered to discuss The Anxious Generation.

At the second parent-faculty book club meeting in February discussing Co-intelligence: Living and Working with AI by Ethan Mollick, the conversation centered around the question of how to  best interact with AI or, in Mollick’s words, “be a human in the loop.”

To kick off the meeting, participants were invited to share what excites and concerns them about AI. Faculty also elaborated on ways in which they are using AI to enhance, not replace, their roles. RCDS Director of Academic Technology and Upper School Chinese Teacher Joanne Shang led a presentation on large learning models (LLMs), AI systems that can process and generate text.  The discussion closed with consideration of future scenarios involving AI’s rapidly advancing capacities.

The final Parent-Faculty Book Club meeting, scheduled for Thursday, May 1, will cover Breheny Wallace’s Never Enough. RCDS community, please sign up via E-notes.

Thanks to all of our participants!
