Pre-Kindergartners Learn About Native American Culture and Traditions

On Monday, November 24, in recognition of Native American Heritage Month, Pre-K students welcomed RCDS’s Main Entrance Receptionist, Ms. Angela Monti, to their P.E. class to share her Native American culture and traditions.

Ms. Monti discussed her Native American roots, including her father, who was Apache of the Hicarija Tribe. She then read aloud one of her favorite Native American picture books, Be A Good Ancestor by Gabrielle Prince and Leona PrinceIn addition, she presented a special rock and a seedling to the students, explaining how nature can bring comfort to us and why it is important to care for and protect our environment.

Following the read-aloud, Pre-Kindergartners practiced some traditional Native American games, including the “Toe Toss” (launching a bean bag to a target from their toe) and a “Hoop and Arrow” activity (throwing a noodle through a hula hoop).

Thank you, Ms. Monti, for visiting with our Pre-K students in recognition of Native American Heritage Month.
