On January 23, the Rye Country Day School Sustainability program and the Parents Association Sustainability Committee partnered with the City of Rye Sustainability Committee to host the annual Green Screen event.
This annual collaboration is an environmental film screening followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers. The event also features a vegetarian zero waste reception and student project showcase.
This year, AP Environmental Science students showcased the sustainable farm models they created in the Makerspace. Additionally, Davis Clarke ’25 and Leo Roth ’25 shared the green wall design they created as part of their independent study, and Juliette Moore ’27 displayed her project on disinfecting drinking water.
The 12th Green Screen featured the documentary Abundance: The Farmlink Story. The short film tells the story of a group of college students who came together to create The Farmlink Project to address the national food crisis during the COVID pandemic in April 2020.
Following the screening, Farmlink co-founders Aidan Reilly and Max Goldman shared the organization's growth to deliver 300+ million lbs of food—that would otherwise have been wasted—from farmers to communities facing food insecurity.
As the son of a proud RCDS alumnus, Max Goldman was especially thrilled to visit campus and engage with students who are deeply committed to sustainability.
The audience, which included RCDS community members and neighbors, was impressed to learn about Farmlink’s impactful work, which has earned the team the Congressional Medal of Honor, CNN’s Top 10 Heroes, the Jefferson Award, and the distinction of being the first American organization to receive the Changemakers Award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The 2025 Green Screen honored Green Screen co-founder Gretchen Kaye-Crowley P’13, P’15, P’17 who was concluding her 16-year tenure of outstanding service with the City of Rye Sustainability Committee. A strong advocate for thinking critically and acting boldly for the environment, Ms. Kaye-Crowley also co-founded the Parents Association Sustainability Committee in the early 2000s.
"Thanks to Ms. Kaye-Crowley’s continued leadership as a Wildcat parent and as a member of the City of Rye Sustainability Committee, the Green Screen has become a cherished partnership between RCDS and the local community,” shared Director of Sustainability Kerry Linderoth. On behalf of the entire RCDS community, Ms. Linderoth thanked Ms. Kaye-Crowley with a reclaimed pine wood plaque that was created in the RCDS Makerspace.
