RCDS Co-Hosts 6th Annual Saturday Summit on Social Justice

On November 19, Rye Country Day co-hosted the 6th Annual Saturday Summit on Social Justice with The Masters School. This year’s conference welcomed 126 participants from 12 schools to discuss topics related to identity, DEI, and community building. The attendees included Fairchester students in Grades 8-12, faculty, and staff members. From RCDS, 24 students and faculty participated in the Summit.

This year’s theme was “Return to Real Talk: Civil Discourse is Essential.” Keynote speaker Ashley Lipscomb, of the Institute for Anti-Racist Education, unpacked the theme with a motivational speech that focused on honoring relationships with ourselves and with others when engaging in healthy and informed civil discourse.

In various workshops and during their affinity group sessions, the Summit attendees touched on how civil discourse intersects with other subjects, including ableism, media, representation, activism, socioeconomic class, and more.

"Our wonderful students always bring so much to our annual Summit and this year was no different. I remain in awe of the passion, wisdom, and energy that was present throughout the day. I look forward to seeing how our students continue to 'be the change they would like to see in the world.'"
- Ali Morgan, Director of Diversity and Inclusion
