RCDS Hosts Heard in Rye Event with Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author Jennifer Senior

RCDS was proud to host Heard in Rye’s culminating event of the 2022-23 speaker series on April 18. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jennifer Senior gave a presentation titled “All Joy and No Fun, the Paradox of Modern Parenthood” in the Dunn Performing Arts Center for RCDS and the neighboring community members.

In her talk, she posed the question, What are the effects of children on their parents? Ms. Senior discussed the many ways children reshape their parents’ lives, whether it’s their marriages, their jobs, their habits, their hobbies, their friendships, or their sense of self. Key takeaways included strategies for negotiating marital tensions around child rearing and division of labor, pointers about social media, and general information about the forces shaping modern parenting.

Heard in Rye is a community-run initiative bringing distinguished experts in parenting and education for speaker events in Rye and neighboring towns. Many thanks to Jennifer Senior, Heard in Rye, and the Parents Association for collaborating to bring this meanignful subject to the local community.
