RCDS Launches Girls Who Code to Lower and Middle School Students

Earlier this year, the STEAM Program launched the RCDS chapter of the nationally recognized Girls Who Code program for girls in Grades 3-8.

Led by Upper School Computer Science Teacher Reham Islam, the Girls Who Code after-school club provides a fun, supportive after-school environment where students participate in hands-on coding projects, creative challenges, and interactive games. In addition to Ms. Islam, Upper School student volunteers help lead the activities  to strengthen Middle and Lower school girls’ foundational coding skills while building confidence, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Inviting all curious budding computer scientists to “bring imagination and enthusiasm to create, code, and pave the way for the future of technology,” Ms. Islam is already looking forward to hosting the club again in 2025-26!
