RCDS Musicians Receive New York State Honors

Two RCDS students were recognized by the New York State School Music Association. After practicing diligently to hone their individual crafts and auditioning with advanced level solos, they were selected for prestigious state-level ensembles and events. Honors ensembles at the county level were canceled this year due to the pandemic and will resume next year.

Jefferson Zhou ’24 performed at the Fifteenth Annual NYSSMA Piano Showcase at this year's New York State School Music Association Conference in Rochester, NY. Only 12 students from New York state were chosen for this distinguished event. Jefferson performed Un Sospiro (Movement 3) by Liszt. His piano teacher is Dr. Tomoko Uchino.

Emilie Ward ’23, who sits as concertmaster of the RCDS String Orchestra, was selected as an alternate for the NY All-State Orchestra. She auditioned with the first movement of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in e minor. Her teacher is Akiko Silver.

Congratulations to these fine musicians!
