RCDS Public Purpose Hosts First Annual Furniture Drive

As spring cleaning season gets underway, the RCDS Public Purpose program transformed decluttering into an opportunity to give back.

Rye Country Day School’s first annual Furniture Drive launched in partnership with the Furniture Sharehouse on March 28 as part of a broader effort to promote public purpose and social responsibility.

Members of the RCDS community donated furniture and household items in good condition to be distributed by Furniture Sharehouse to individuals and families in Westchester County, including individuals moving out of homeless shelters or escaping domestic violence, working families living in extreme poverty, veterans facing financial hardship, young adults aging out of foster care, victims of natural disasters, and refugees.

On the day of the drive, RCDS students assisted with the transfer of items from donor vehicles to the Furniture Sharehouse truck and completed donation paperwork. By helping to collect and organize these contributions, they gained firsthand experience in addressing local needs and supporting underserved populations. A meaningful way to enact our motto, Not for Self, but for Service.

RCDS extends heartfelt gratitude to every member of our community who donated items and to our outstanding student volunteers. Thank you for your commitment to the community, Wildcats!

Special thanks also to our longtime partner organization Furniture Sharehouse for making this initiative possible.
