Rye Country Day has a number of exciting travel and learning opportunities for Upper Schoolers in 2025. The Modern Languages Department will host its inaugural Language Exchange Program with three destination countries, and the Global Studies Program will offer three summer travel experiences, including domestic and international locations.
Language Exchange Programs
Upcoming language exchange programs will be held in the following countries:
- Aix-en-Provence, France, led by Mr. Bataille
- Barcelona, Spain, led by Mr. Benitez Melendez
- Shanghai, China, led by Ms. Shang
These Language Exchange Programs will provide students with opportunities to deepen their language skills and gain a more robust understanding of foreign practices and cultures while staying with local host families. While abroad and fully immersed in both the language and the culture of their destination, students will attend classes and after-school activities and discover various nearby regions and locales.
Global Studies Travel Programs
Upcoming summer travel programs for students include:
- Civil Rights in the American South: Atlanta, GA & Montgomery, Selma, and Birmingham, AL, led by Mr. Mitschele.
- Peru: Lost Cities & Living Jungles, led by Mr. Leath and Ms. Linderoth.
- Vikings and Volcanoes: Exploring Iceland's Climate Past and Future, led by Ms. Bischoff and Mr. Flynn.
Through its Global Studies program, Rye Country Day School prepares students to participate actively and ethically as global citizens. In the American South, participants will tour historic areas of the civil rights movement in Georgia and Alabama. In Peru, travelers will explore the rainforests and cultural heritage sites. In Iceland, students will analyze how the country confronts global warming and explore the sources of sustainable energy.
