Over the summer, RCDS installed a walking/running path on East Campus, the 8.971-acre parcel of land across Boston Post Road. While the School works to develop the property into athletic fields and facilities for shared use with the local community, RCDS community members will have short-term use of the area for athletic practices and project-based activities. Thank you to our facilities and security teams for ensuring that safety protocols are in place when the East Campus is in use.
In January of 2022, New York State approved Rye Country Day’s purchase of the parcel, which had been part of the School until 1958, when New York State acquired it by eminent domain for the construction of I-95. RCDS closed on the property in December of 2022. For the time being, the School has chosen to refer to the purchased land as East Campus. Once developed with athletic and recreational facilities that will serve both RCDS and local athletes, East Campus will be made available by RCDS for public use approximately 29 percent of the time at a nominal or no cost.
“We are excited about our ongoing work to develop East Campus. This work, which will be subject to local and state approvals, will usher in a new chapter for the School and our continued partnership with our neighbors–including Rye, Port Chester, and other surrounding communities.”
