On Saturday, October 5, members of the Upper School Cross Country Team recently visited the Marshlands Preserve to roll up their sleeves and help keep the beloved local wildlife sanctuary clean and free of trash. The environmental impact activity was coordinated by the RCDS Public Purpose and Sustainability programs as part of their monthly clean-up initiative in partnership with the Westchester Parks Foundation.
The Marshlands Conservancy is a 147-acre wildlife sanctuary composed of diverse habitats–forest, meadow, salt marsh, and shore. The Wildcats followed the three miles of trails and one-half mile of shoreline along the Long Island Sound looking for discarded items they could clean up to support the health of Marshlands flora and fauna. During the clean-up, students also observed a variety of birds, as the Marshlands Conservancy is on an Atlantic migratory flyway.
