Upper School Model UN Club Hosts First-Ever RCDSMUNC

Following their participation in the Ivy League Model UN Conference (ILMUNC) in January, the Rye Country Day School Model UN club brought the experience home, hosting the School’s first-ever on-campus model UN conference.

On April 18, the student-led RCDSMUNC welcomed peers from neighboring schools to partake in a simulation of the real United Nations. Working in committees in roles of diplomats representing different countries or organizations, students debated global issues, drafted resolutions, and negotiated with others to find solutions.

RCDSMUNC began with a plenary session Memorial Hall, featuring keynote speaker and RCDS alumna Lilli Schindler ’83, Chief of the Group Programmes and Public Inquiries Units in the UN Outreach Division. From there, delegates moved into committee sessions held on the Garden Level of the Pinkham Building, where they debated pressing global and historical issues. Topics included the ethics of artificial intelligence in business, the Equal Pay Act, and Cold War-era tensions.

It was a terrific day of global learning that built students’ skills in public speaking, research, writing, and diplomacy.
