For the past three years, Profe Benítez Meléndez has taken his Spanish language students on a field trip to New York City to the Repertorio Español. The theater presents year-round new and classic plays, performed in Spanish and rotating repertory-style.
This time around, students saw The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the stage adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Junot Díaz. This novel offers a rich opportunity for students to connect its narrative to the life experiences of others, fostering a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives and cultural backgrounds. This experience also serves as a valuable tool in preparation for the upcoming AP exam.
Following the play, the class visited an authentic Spanish restaurant to enjoy a traditional tapas experience, further immersing students in Spanish culture. The trip is a beneficial way for students to put their comprehension skills to the test!
