Upper School Students Present at Rye City Council Meeting

As part of their work in AP Biology class in the Spring of 2025 and in partnership with the Rye Sustainability Committee, Miles Dinger ’26, Keaton Greenberg ’26, and Caden Powers ’26 attended the Rye City Council meeting on September 17 to present information on nitrogen fertilizer issues.
The students also shared their suggestions and ideas for the use of slow-release nitrogen fertilizer in the city, as opposed to quick-release fertilizers, which are harmful to the environment. 

The students shared an overview of the negative impact fertilizer has on the environment, the pros and cons of each type, and the percentage of pollution from fertilizer in Rye and Westchester County. The Rye City Council shared next steps with the students as they continue their partnership and advocacy with the Rye Sustainability Committee.
