The Upper School held the second-ever Student Choreography Showcase, featuring original dance pieces choreographed by nine Upper School dancers: Katia Ohmacht ’24, Dani Penn ’24, Claire Yu ’25, Anya Khemlani ’23, Chidi Olewuenyi ’22, Seneca Song ’24, Lauren Kim ’23, Mary Burdick ’22, and Julia Carroll ’22. In addition to the choreographers, nine other student dancers performed in the showcase, including members of the Cedar Street Dance Company.
Preparing for the showcase, the students worked individually and collaboratively to explore different dance styles and create their own unique and evocative dance pieces. The final performance included a range of styles, from modern to contemporary to musical theatre jazz.
The Upper School club Dance with a Purpose run by student leaders Chidi Olewuenyi ’22 and Charlotte Ballantoni ’22 hosted the event and collected donations for the organization Dancing Dreams in Bayside, NY, which provides dance opportunities and mentors to children with physical or medical challenges.
Congratulations to our talented dancers whose creativity and hard work left the audience in the Black Box Theater moved, inspired, and entertained!
