Upper School Students Transform Chairs into Pieces of Art

Throughout November and December, Upper School students in Honors Drawing and Painting engaged in an innovative art project titled “The Chair Reinvented: Form or Function?”

Students were asked to deconstruct and rebuild a chair as a conceptual artwork (functional or non-functional).  Each student artist chose five lines from a poem or song and selected four adjectives to guide their creativity. They used power tools to deconstruct the wood, added rope and wire to reconnect pieces, and also painted some of the components

The project was a great opportunity for Upper Schoolers to explore self-expression through a range of materials and approaches to two and three-dimensional forms.
