Upper Schoolers Lead December Beach Clean-Up at Edith Read

RCDS Peer Leaders, Environmental Club members, and Marine Ecology students were the December participants in Rye Country Day’s Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary monthly clean-up program.

The students collected 13.35 lbs of trash, including cans, styrofoam, plastic, sweatshirts, and sunglasses. After the clean-up, they visited the bird feeder by the nature center and heard from the onsite naturalist about the sanctuary’s variety of birds. On that particular Saturday, the students sighted cardinals, chickadees, wild turkeys, and a Cooper's Hawk! The naturalist also shared information about the oyster reef project and dune restoration project taking place at the beach.
