Upper Schoolers Learn About Sustainability Efforts, Gain Insight on Entrepreneurship with Ecotone Renewables Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder Kyle Wyche

Upper Schoolers were thrilled to welcome Ecotone Renewables Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder Kyle Wyche back to campus for an in-depth conversation and walkthrough of the Zero Emission Upcycling System digester, more commonly known as ZEUS.

Mr. Wyche visited both the Innovation and Entrepreneurship class and the Makerspace to speak to Upper School students interested in how RCDS is continuing its commitment to sustainability. Mr. Wyche discussed how the anaerobic digester takes the School’s food waste and composts it into a bottled, liquid slurry called Soil Sauce. The sauce is a nutrient-rich plant fertilizer that infuses powerful macro and micronutrients into a variety of plantings, including flower, herb, and vegetable gardens and house plants. Furthermore, Mr. Wyche elaborated on the ways he and his co-founders developed the idea for ZEUS and what it is like starting and operating a business.

Following both conversations, Mr. Wyche led an in-person walk-through of the digester. With the doors of ZEUS swung wide open, students were able to see firsthand how the composter works to create the soil sauce and got to take home their own soil sauce, which they were encouraged to use on their gardens at home.

Mr. Wyche also met with faculty and staff members of the RCDS community, as well as the Faculty Sustainability Committee.

Thank you, Mr. Wyche, for sharing your insights with students, faculty, and staff!
